16th IFFK 2011 Begins At Thiruvanathpuram Kerala

The 16th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK 2011) began at Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, when chief minster Oommen Chandy inaugurated it in the presence of large number of film personalities and film lovers at Nisagandhi Auditorium. Chief minister pointed to the demanding side of cinema that Malayalam film makers should absorb the good side of the world cinema in their creations to enrich their movies. Since films can influence a society to certain extent, the film fraternity should try to come up with excellent movies that can create positive impact on society, he added.

Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan (Jaya Bhaduri) was the chief guest of the festival. She emphasized the need for a good screening and projection for the success of a festival. This is her second visit to Thiruvananthapuram. In 1991 she visited the city as an organiser of International Children's Film Festival. Veteran Bollywood actor Om Puri, who was the guest of honour observed that Malayalis possess a real passion and love for cinema of which they can be really be proud. Ministers Ganesh Kumar, K.C. Joseph, V.S. Siva Kumar, Sasi Tharoor M.P, Chalachithra academy chairman Priyadarsan spoke on the ocassion. Jury chairman of IFFK Bruce Beresford, veteran actress Sukumari, producers association president G.SureshKumar, KSFDC chairman Sabu Cherian and others were also present for the inaugural function of IFFK. 'Destiny's Dice' a programme, conceived by director T.K. Rajeevkumar, performed after the inaugural ceremony. Inaugural film Under the Hawthorn Tree (Chinese movie) screened after the function.
