South Indian movie producer K. Raja Gopal, 73, alias KRG, died on Tuesday 10 p.m at his residence in T. Nagar in Chennai. He has been undergoing treatment for intestinal desease for the past few days. He was son of Kesavan Pillai of Mannarkad, Mailakode near Palakkad. He is survived by his wife Santha and children the late K.R.Gagadharan and Radhamani. His funeral was on Wednesday (20th June 2012) evening at Kannamampetta in Chennai.
He has produced almost seventy movies in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada. Some of his Malayalam movies made under the banner of KRG Intenational Film Corporation are Sangham, Lal Salam, Mrigaya, Vadakku Nokki Yanthram, Varavelppu, Neelagiri and Oliyambukal. Last movie he produced in Malayalam was Mayookham of Hariharan in 2005. It was the debut movie of Mamta Mohan Das.
Raja Gopal started his film career by producing Tamil movies in the seventies. Thaiku Oru Thalattu, Kadal Meenkal, Sigappu Rojakkal are some of the Tamil hit movies of him. He even produced movies of Sivaji Ganesan, Rajnikanth, Kamal Hassan and of Elaya Dalapathi Vijay. He has received Kalai Mamani Puraskar of Tamilnadu Government.
