Vivek Oberoi Summoned In A 3 Crore Cheque Bounce Case

Non bailable warrants have been issued against Hindi movie star Vivek Oberoi and his father Suresh Oberoi in a case of financial default to the tune of Rs 3 Crores. The warrant has been issued by a metropolitan magistrate court in Mumbai. In addition to the father son duo, 5 additional people have also been accused in this case of cheque bounce - a manager of Oberoi Multimedia Limited and 4 members from the board of directors of the Oberoi company.

This issue is in court since December 2010, but all the accused didnot attent court for any of the last 3 hearings. The complaint has been filed by one Jawaharlal Agicha who was requested to financially fund Oberoi Multimedia Ltd for brand promotion campaigns of the company in India and abroad. The company's Managing director Anand Oberoi, who is related to Suresh Oberoi, along with its manager Anil Lalwani were in the forefront for requesting the money from Agicha, and repayment was discussed in the form of post dated cheques for Rupees 3.9 Crore.

In January 2010, Agicha was paid Rs. 50,000 by cheque, but the post dated cheque for Rs. 3 Crore which was to be realized on the 19th of October bounced. The cheque was dishonoured by the Versova branch of New India Co-operative Bank in Andheri, Mumbai, since the account was closed. After the cheque bounced, Agicha registered the matter in court in Dec 2010. During the last 3 hearings, none of the accused attended any hearings, and hence finaly this Thursday 28 July 2011, the court agreed to issue non-bailable warrants against the Oberois.
