About the movie :

The story of My Name Is Khan (MNIK) is mainly set in the United States of America. It starts of with India though, where Rizwan as a kid (played by Tanay Chedda) is brought up in Borivali (suburbs of Mumbai). He suffers from an autism-like illness called Asperger syndrome. People suffering from Asperger Syndrome show significant difficulties in social interaction, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests, and sometimes physical clumsiness.
When he grows up, Rizwan (now played by Shahrukh Khan) moves to San Fransisco to live with his brother. While in the US, he falls in love with a Hindu girl, Mandira (Kajol), marries her and together, they start a business. All this was before the 9/11 terrorist attacks. After 9/11, their relationship is hit badly, and they seperate following a tragedy. The rest of the story is Rizwan's (Shahrukh's) journey across the United States to win her back. Which also involves an attempt to speak to the president of the US

The film does focus on how the views of the western world on Islam and Muslims changed after the 9/11 attacks.
