Actually, Danny Boyle had never even considered a 'typical bollywood song dance ' number in his film.
He had just finished his entire shoot in Mumbai, and was rushing to catch a train back to England with his camera. He had no idea that Bollywood was waiting for him at the train-station with a muscle-crew! 'You can't just come in here, shoot a film the way you want and leave with it....' screamed Bollywood, snatching away his camera '....unless you follow the tradition' !
Helpless without his camera, Boyle was subdued. And thus was Boyle traditionally ransomed into Jai Ho, Rahman and the Oscar...
