About the movie :

7 different women. 7 stories. 7 point of views. That makes up the movie Bhoomi Malayalam.
Most of the stories depict the history of Kerala, and kind of showcase some unfortunate conditions that women in Kerala go through. The movie also attempts to portray the restrictions that the Indian society in general and Kerala society in general has imposed on the malayalee women. Theoretically, Malayalam Bhoomi is an excellent concept. But alas, the execution of the film didn't do enough justice to the concept. Here is a gist of the 7 stories that you'll find in the movie :

The Sportswoman - Marriage shatters her dreams of going ahead in the sports field.

A factory worker whose brother is killed in a political tussle.

A muslim girl, a journalist. She has a tough time with her job because of her husband, who thinks ill of her profession.

A girl whose brother is stoned to death by the cops.

Story of a communist party worker's wife

A wealthy woman who loves reading, and gets enlightened.

A poor malayali girl who is raped and killed by a rich landlord.

Frankly, though T V Chandran is a national award winnder for best direction (1994), this time it looks like the director was unable to extract good performances from the actors. Maybe except for the muslim girl who plays the journalist. And if you are a fan of Nedumudi or Indrans and are planning to watch Bhoomi Malayalam online for these great actors, then be aware that these 2 appear for not more than maybe 3-4 minutes !
